Top ranked Capitanes (22-11) recorded its eleventh loss in Mayaguez on Monday night. Visitors were rolled over by fifth ranked Indios (15-18) 101-67. Mayaguez made 17-of-21 free shots (81.0 percent) during the game. Mayaguez outrebounded Arecibo 41-29 including a 31-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. Mayaguez looked well-organized offensively handing out 31 assists comparing to just 16 passes made by Arecibo's players. American forward Cameron McGriff (201-1997, college: OK State) fired a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Guard Luis Lopez (182-1998, college: PR-Mayaguez) chipped in 22 points and 5 assists. Naturalized Mexican Jorge Torres (196-2000) produced a double-double by scoring 18 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists for lost side. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Mayaguez moved-up to third place, which they share with Ponce and Aguada. Arecibo at the other side still keeps top position with 11 games lost.
Important game to mention about took place in Santurce. First ranked Mets (20-12) saved a 3-point victory on the road edging 5th ranked Cangrejeros (17-16) 102-99 on Saturday evening. Worth to mention a great performance of American-Jordanian power forward Rondae Hollis-Jefferson (201-1995, college: Arizona) who helped to win the game recording 30 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Jaysean Paige contributed with 19 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists for the winners. Mets' coach Jose Juan Barea allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. American center Jared Sullinger (206-1992, college: Ohio St.) answered with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 19 rebounds for Santurce. Guaynabo maintains first place with 20-12 record. Santurce at the other side keeps the fifth position with 16 games lost.
A very close game took place in Juana Diaz between Leones and Cangrejeros. Fifth ranked Leones (15-18) got a very close home victory over their close opponent Cangrejeros (17-16). Leones managed to escape with a 2-point win 92-90 on Monday evening. It was a great evening for Jordan Bell who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 21 points, 14 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 blocks. At the losing side Angel Rodriguez responded with 20 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. Ponce moved-up to third place, which they share with Aguada and Mayaguez. Loser Cangrejeros keeps the fifth position with 16 games lost.
Other games of round 31 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
Manati defeated Caguas in a road game 80-76. Aguada was beaten by Caguas at home 84-88. Carolina won against Ponce on the opponent's court 98-92. Quebradillas managed to outperform San German in a home game 118-109. Mayaguez was rolled over Bayamon on the road 104-84.
